P6/7 went outside to complete the challenge of drawing an Egyptian sarcophagus with a perimeter of 8 metres. Lots of problem solving skills were needed to complete this challenge, and most groups were successful in achieving the 8m target. Those who didn’t, came very close. Well done everybody!
Our P3 children have been looking at ‘The Environment’ in their topic work. As well as looking at how we can help make our planet a better place to live in, we have also been looking at our school environment. The children went for a walk and looked for all the things that they thought made our school a great environment for learning in.
Here are a list of the things they thought were great.
lots of grass
flowers
trees
birds
playground with painted number squares/ alphabet etc
sensory garden
playground toys
They did notice some litter around the perimeter of the grounds and the noise of the cars going up the road was quite distracting. These were the only two negative things that hey could think of.
In outdoor play today, the P3 children made a hotel out of the grass that had been cut. They also enjoyed using the pedal toys and outdoor games.
P4 and P5 were set a challenge.
‘Design a paper boat that will hold pennies’.
The winning boat was the boat that was able to hold the most pennies, without sinking.
P4 and P5 were set the challenge to make a ‘wall of 3’ using IZAK9. As you can see they were successful in building the wall.
Taking advantage of the good weather in April, P4 and P5 completed an outdoor STEM challenge.
They were divided into groups and given the outdoor building blocks and other junk material for the challenge.
Each group had to discuss and agree on what they were going to make. They made thrones, chairs and a playground. Great teamwork from everyone.
P3 have been very busy learning about Spring with Mrs Peden. They all wrote fantastic reports on birds - Jackdaws, Blackbirds, Bluetits and Herons. They also did some beautiful artwork to make this Spring display.
Lockdown and home schooling has made P6 and P7 think about how important school is, and how sometimes we can take it for granted. They wrote poems, similar to a poem called ‘Just a Book?’ by Joshua Seigal. We realised that Rasharkin Primary School is ‘Not Just a School’!
Click here to read their impressive poems.
P6/7 have been looking at rainforests in W.A. U. They made a 3D diorama of the rainforest showing plant and animal life. Children worked in pairs to create a simple plan of their diorama i.e.: which plants will go where, how will they create the different layers, what material will they use and need, which plants and animals will go where? They then started creating these wonderful pieces with Miss Richmond.
December has been a great month for the children in P1 and P2 to enjoy outdoor play. This week their play had a Christmas theme. They had -
‘hot chocolate’ stand and the Christmas shop
Santa’s sleigh and reindeer built from the blocks
P4 and P5 have been studying the artist Ted Harrison. As you can see, they produced some brilliant artwork in the style of Ted Harrison paintings.
P3 have been learning about 2D shapes. They used 2D shapes to make their own Christmas wrapping paper.
P1 and P2 had get fun making and decorating triangles to make a Christmas tree. They noticed that the number of triangles needed for the different rows of the Christmas tree were two less or two more each time. They also noticed that the numbers starting with one triangle at the top were then the odd numbers 1,3,5,7,9. They also noticed that to make the different layers of the Christmas tree, the triangles had to be the right way up and then turned upside down to fit in. A very impressive Christmas Tree display.
P1 and P2 demonstrated great teamwork today in their outdoor numeracy lesson. They worked together to find leaves and sticks to make their numbers up to 20. Well done everyone!
The play room has now had a Christmas makeover. The P1 and P2 children are really enjoying lots of Christmas activities in their afternoon classes in the play room.
