P6 and P7 put their measuring skills to the test this week when they did a measuring scavenger hunt. Not only did they have to find specific things in the playground to measure, but they also had the extra challenge of finding something they couldn’t measure!
The P1/2 topic for November and December is Houses and Homes. Toby showed us photos of his house being built. He explained each stage of the build to the class. Thank you Toby for sharing this very interesting information.

P5 were looking at the features of metaphor poetry. We looked at the poem ‘What is Pink?’ by Christine Rossetti and using the same style, we created our own colour poems.
Back in the Autumn, P1 and P2 planted some bulbs in the sensory garden. They were very excited to see what had grown. There were daffodils, crocuses and tulips. The children used their hand prints to paint some lovely spring flowers. Their display really brightens up the corridor.
P3 and P4 have just started their new topic, ‘Ourselves’ in World Around Us. They have been:-
Investigating body measurements
in partners they have been looking at - what’s the same in us?
My family members - what makes us different?
P3 and P4 have been learning all about ‘Transport’ in their topic work. They have been investigating all sorts of transport. They have been drawing, writing, making and researching. In the final week of this topic, they got the opportunity to have four groups for Activity Based Learning
Play dough transport

Our P3 and P4 children have been investigating some of the different nets of 3D shapes. They made the nets of shapes using Clixi.
P1 have been learning the ‘or’ sound in their Jolly Phonics. They looked at words like horn, corn and fork. Toby thought of the idea to make ‘forky’.
P1 and P2 have been learning about their senses. They have carried out experiments to learn more about their sense of touch, hearing, smell, sight and on Tuesday they were learning about taste. Their experiment was
Using only your sense of taste, can you recognise the different flavours of crisps?
Our P1 and P2 children have taken on roles of patient, nurse, doctor and receptionist. They have been acting out scenarios that happen in a real health centre. We definitely have some budding health professionals in the making!
P1 have been learning the letter sound ‘j’ in their Jolly Phonics scheme. They had to look for lots of things starting with the letter ‘j’. They then made some jelly which was a very enjoyable treat to remember the letter ‘j’!
P2 have been learning to count in 2s and also in 5s. Their challenge was to:-
make a ‘counting in 2 stick’
design and make a ‘5 counting stick’
They all enjoyed this challenge and worked hard to make their counting sticks.
P4 and P5 have been learning lots of French words during their French classes with Mrs Calderwood. They also looked at a very famous French artist, Henri Matisse 1869 - 1954. After 1930, when ill health prevented him from painting, he created an important body of work in the medium of cut paper collage - art using scissors. The P4 and P5 created their own artwork in the style of Henri Matisse. I think you will agree their pictures are really impressive.
In literacy this term, P6 and P7 are reading and studying poetry. They have been looking at different techniques that poets use when writing. They then wrote their own poems about ‘Snow’, using some brilliant similes and metaphors.
During their Spain topic, P6 and P7 found out about the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. Picasso used a style of art called cubism, which uses lots of shapes and bold colours to create pictures. P6/7 created their own cubist style portraits, which really make you think about what is going on in the picture.
In their Outdoor Play, P1 and P2 were ‘investigating their surroundings’
They discovered lots of mini beasts around the bug hotel. They also did some pretend cooking, spying, building and exercising.
P1 and P2 have started their new ‘World Around Us’ topic - ‘Look at Me’. During Outdoor Play, the children were given a challenge:-
Work together in a team to make a model of the human body.
As you can see they did a fantastic job. and made some great models. They used leaves to make the features on the face. Izabelle found a really interesting skeleton leaf.
